In our previous series of posts about collecting the literature of food and drink, we noted that the literature is so vast that the topic overwhelms most book collectors. About the only way the average book collector can cope with this vastness is by focusing, as tightly as possible, on one or two extremely specific aspects of the larger topic. The tighter the focus, the more likely it is that one's time, budget, etc., will be equal to the task.
The large number of holidays that are celebrated around the world during the month of December present an excellent opportunity to build just such a focused collection. One can collect books about food and drink appropriate to a specific holiday during this period, or to several holidays during this period.
One could, for example, collect only books about food and drink specific to Chanuka...
...or only books about food and drink appropriate to Kwanzaa...
...but the 800-pound gorilla of such collections is. obviously, the vast literature associated with the food and drink of Christmas:
So vast is the literature associated with the food and drink of Christmas that most book collectors find that it is not enough to focus only on this one holiday -- they must focus further or only one specific type of food or drink associated with the holiday. Cookies, for example...
...or food and drink appropriate to a vegetarian Christmas...
...or only books specific to Christmas food and drink that have been penned by a favorite chef:
Did we mention all the books that have been printed about Christmas cakes...?
And we haven't even scratched the surface! Happy Holidays...!
