Book collectors sometimes encounter the term shaken in booksellers' catalogs. This is not a good thing, since the term means that sections (signatures) of a book or pamphlet are becoming quite loose, but remain attached to the binding. This problem can frequently be addressed by a simple but careful application of archival tape or glue, assuming the book is otherwise in good condition. The more severe the problem the more likely it is that the book will need to be completely rebound. Repairs of rarer and/or more expensive titles is a job that should be left to conservation professionals....
