We suggested in yesterday's post that an excellent way to begin filling the shelves of your private library is to visit your local neighborhood independent bookseller.
"Wait a minute!," we can hear many of you mumbling under your breath...the independent bookseller is dead, or close to it, done in by Amazon and bigbox retailers like Barnes & Noble. Right?!
As Mark Twain once observed, "the reports of my death are greatly exaggerated." To be sure, independent booksellers worldwide have shuttered their brick & mortar operations in distressingly high numbers. But many of the dealers are still out there, not dead but transformed. They now cater to very select clients interested in very specific genres, for example, or they have moved their bookselling operations completely online, often as part of a consortium of like-minded booksellers.
Their operations have been transformed, but their professionalism remains. And here's where you will find many of them:
