September 29 marks the 6-month anniversary of this blog. So the time seems ripe to assess whether The Private Library has been a useful addition to the blogosphere. If it has, are there ways we can make it even more useful? If it has not, do we make a mid-course correction, or simply pull the plug...?
This is not merely a matter of money, although servers and bandwidth obviously have costs associated with them. The real issue is time--posting original content 365 days a year is very time-consuming. Constantly sourcing, evaluating and adding appropriate high-quality links also is time consuming. Has it been worth it?
Comments and unique page views are the only real mechanisms we have for evaluating the usefulness of this blog. We have had very few comments, despite the enormous diversity of topics that we have covered during our first six months. And while the average number of unique page views has increased modestly over time, the number is still well below what is necessary to make this blog worth the amount of time invested in it.
So, where do we go from here? Drop us a line and let us know. If you don't want to leave a public comment, feel free to send us a private email....
